Hello Brides, Grooms, and other friends of ADORE,

My name is Sabrina and I’m pleased to introduce myself as one of the two summer interns. I’m currently residing in the Gainesville area for school but even more currently (and exciting) for this great opportunity with ADORE Events.

As a college student, changes of major are expected. So towards the end of this past year, I started to explore my second change of major (hopefully the last). In my first year I have enjoyed coordinating events for different organizations on campus and would like to incorporate this into my new major. That being said, prospective major: Event And Recreation Management. How would I decide if this is the right major for me? Hands on experience, an internship of course.

Being an intern for Amy and ADORE Events I have already learned so much when it comes to the event industry, and we are only half way through the summer! The internships at ADORE aren’t like the traditional paper filing, phone calling, and errand running internships at most office jobs (well, sometimes we do those things too). With this internship we have tons of hands on experience to see the whole event planning process from beginning to end and every detail in between. I have assisted in 3 weddings (Number 4 this weekend!), photo shoots, and countless office hours in preparation for these big events.

Currently my favorite part of the process is day of coordination. Seeing everything that has been planned weeks and months in advanced and the look on the clients face when they see these plans become a reality is a true reward. As far as majors go, as of now I’m thinking this may be the final change.

Read about her goal and road to becoming a Wedding Planner:

“Ever since 5^th grade when I saw The Wedding Planner, I wanted to be just like J.Lo… minus the falling in love with the groom thing. Throughout high school I was discouraged by people ridiculing me and decided maybe it wasn’t a realistic dream. Coming into college I decided to major in Event Management at the University of Florida (Go Gators) in hopes that I could do something similar to my dream. Coming off the elevator one night I saw a good friend of mine who was just getting back from a wedding she had helped at with ADORE Events. Instantly I started playing 21 questions trying to get as much information about her internship that I could. After 15 minutes of interrogation, she told me to go and e-mail Amy Keene my resume and say I was interested in an internship position.

I immediately went home and started fixing my resume to send. Within the week I heard back from Amy and a week later came in for an interview. I was so excited when I found out I got the internship, but a little nervous for what was to come. The first day I helped with a photo shoot and an event. Although it was extremely hot, and very hectic, I had a blast. The “fun” part was everything I hoped it could be! I had a feeling I would love working with Amy, and I was right!

Since then I have worked on paper work, and various tasks that needed to be completed at the office. There have been a few events and lots of weddings that I have been able to help execute. I have learned so much interning for ADORE Events. I have been taught by the best and wouldn’t want to work for anyone else. Amy has been such an inspiration and has only secured my decision to be a wedding planner.

Although at times it is hard work, there is always an underlying happy spirit with each employee. Amy teaches in a “hands on” way, never giving you more than you can handle, but pushing you to work at your full capacity. At times when I thought I could not handle all of the tasks given, Amy was right there to motivate us. I have loved my experience here so much, I decided to intern for another semester in fall!”

SUDS

As an Event Coordinator I love to see shows in the theatre. Gainesville has the Hippodrome Theatre that is always running great shows. The current show is called SUDS. I attended the opening night and was blown away by the music. The characters are on point with their acting AND singing. Just amazing! They describe it as a “Rockin 60’s Musical Soap Opera”.
